About Us

Oxfordshire Women in Business (OWIB) has been bringing together women from across Oxfordshire and beyond for many years, offering a space to connect, learn, and grow.

When I was given the opportunity to take over OWIB in 2023, I didn’t hesitate to say yes! I’d been attending the group for years, and it was the one networking event I always looked forward to.

The group attracted such an incredible mix of women, from solo entrepreneurs to corporate professionals, each bringing unique experiences, perspectives, and expertise. The atmosphere

was welcoming, relaxed, and unpressured, and it quickly became the place where I formed some of my most valuable connections, many of whom I’ve since worked with.

Networking should never feel like a chore or a hard sell. At OWIB, it’s about conversations, not pitches. It’s about finding your tribe, making meaningful connections, and leaving each event feeling inspired, motivated, and supported. That’s exactly why I wanted to continue the group and spread the word, so that more women can experience the benefits that networking has brought to me.

Meet Your Host: Jane Abbott

I haven’t always been a networking advocate. When I first started my business, the idea of walking into a room full of strangers was daunting. I still remember the sheer fear of attending my first ever networking event – I had no idea what to expect, who to speak to, or what to say!

Fast forward a few years, and networking has become one of the most important drivers of my business success. It’s helped me find clients, collaborators, and a support system that I couldn’t do without. So much so that in 2018, I launched and ran two 4 Networking groups in Oxfordshire, which gave me a deep insight into what makes a great networking event.

But networking alone isn’t enough. You also need to know how to market yourself effectively. That’s where my work as a business and marketing strategist comes in. I help small business owners and teams gain clarity and confidence in their marketing, because knowing what to say when someone asks what you do, how to attract the right clients, and how to showcase your expertise all stem from strong marketing foundations.

My approach is all about action – not just learning what to do, but actually doing it. The same applies to networking: it’s not just about showing up, but about making meaningful connections that turn into opportunities, sales, and long-term business relationships.

If you’re nervous or unsure about networking, here’s my best advice:

✔ Be yourself – People do business with people. Forget the sales pitch and focus on making connections.

✔ Go in with the mindset of making ‘friends’ – Build relationships first, business will follow naturally.

✔ Find your tribe – Not every networking group is the right fit. Try different ones and see where you feel most comfortable.

OWIB is all about creating a space where women feel welcomed, heard, and empowered. I’d love for you to be part of it!
